What does your Gut Health have to do with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Scientists have found differences in the gut bacteria of people with chronic fatigue syndrome versus their healthy peers.

Chronic fatigue syndrome affects approximately 1 million Americans – women more often than men, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms of CFS include: extreme fatigue after exertion, muscle and joint pain, thinking difficulty and sleep problems. But only about 20 percent of people who have the syndrome actually know it, because it’s difficult to diagnose, the CDC notes. Currently, there are no approved treatments for chronic fatigue syndrome in the United States, but emerging new studies have pointed to possible treatments and solutions. The study found that people with CFS had high levels of several intestinal bacteria species. Due to the newness of the study, it is unknown if the differences are a cause of CFS or a side effect.

Gut bacteria, which number more than 100 trillion cells, have more effect on our health than medical experts previously realized. However, not all bacteria are bad. There are “good” gut bacteria, which improve digestion, strengthens the immune system, and manufactures the vitamins your body needs. Then there is “bad” gut bacteria, which can cause digestion nightmares, mental health problems, skin conditions, and all kinds of other problems such as Digestive issues (Gas/bloating and constipation), Mental issues (depression, anxiety and Brain fog), Autoimmune diseases like reheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

If you suffer from CFS, it might be worth taking a look at your gut health. You can do this by avoiding toxins (such as sugars, and unhealthy oils), eat fermented foods such as non-pasteurised yogurt and cheeses, managing your stress, and taking probiotics. Managing your gut health might not be the answer to curing your CFS, but it will make your overall health better.

With additives in foods and pesticides in crops we live in a toxic age. Sometimes all that toxic buildup can take its toll on the colon, which negatively affects digestion and overall health. When your colon is backed up with toxic material, your body becomes sluggish and unable to perform.
